Contemporary New Realism
Contemporary New Realism, art movement that emerged in Los Angeles and New York pioneered by artist Terrenceo Hammond within the tradition of Nouveau Réalisme or New Realism, a school of art created in France in the late 1950's and early '60's by three founding members Raymond Hains, Jacques de la Villeglé , and Mimmo Rotella. Contemporary New Realism ; an interpretation of " a beautiful landscape going unrecognized in much the same way that the beauty of nature can and has been overlooked. " With the urban landscape as source of inspiration, the cityscape of ready made torn posters stickers peeled paint rust stains subway platforms broken windows etc... Contemporary New Realism creates representations of the city wall itself as " a recreation of today's graffiti which include stickers and stencils as well as large prints, home made posters."
